Big hair and huge voices are back.
No, we are not talking about a gospel choir reunion. The Ultimate Power Club gives you the chance to channel your inner Bonnie Tyler and fulfill your heavy metal fantasies.
The club nights take place tonight at The Ritz in Manchester and The Fleece in Bristol. Upcoming events are also scheduled in London and Brighton.
Now the concept has proved so popular that the organisers plan to launch gigs in Glasgow and Leeds.
The DJs at Ultimate Power- Steve Proud, Brian Mahoney, “Mr” Flash, Alex Gilbert and Dave Fawbert – were inspired to launch the hugely popular concept because they loved the songs but never heard them when they went out into the evening.
Dave Fawbert told us that an Ultimate Power event ditches the too-cool-for-school 12-inch mixes and indie disco staples in favour of the power ballads that are everybody’s guilty pleasures.
He said that just the names of the tunes on the playlist – Meat Loaf’s ‘I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)’ ,Bryan Adams’s ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It For You’ to Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin” and Foreigner’s ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’ – will get you punching the air in abandon.
Dave Fawbert said: “We launched the nights seven years ago at a club called The Fly in New Oxford Street in London. As soon as it kicked off we know it was going to be a success – we were asking why hasn’t anyone done this before. Everyone loves it. It crosses all ages, all groups. Our biggest gigs are in Manchester and London. We get 1,300 in Manchester and 1,100 in London. Who doesn’t want to play an air guitar?”
