Here’s our list of Top Tips for group travel…a little tongue in cheek at times, it pays to be prepared, especially when there’s drinking involved (and please, drink responsibly!)
Once you have checked in for your flight and, if necessary, checked bags, the only time that really matters is the “Boarding Time” printed on your boarding pass, usually between 30-60 minutes before scheduled departure. Generally speaking, the boarding gate closes 15-30 minutes before departure.
Remember where your accommodation is! It’s so obvious, but easily forgotten. You rush in, drop your bags and head straight to the bars….then what? Where are you? Where’s the hotel? Whoops. Try using “I’m lost” cards….(with your hotel or apartment address so you can find your way home!)
Carry a valid EHIC. The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) gives Brits free or discounted medical treatment at state-run hospitals and GPs in any EU country, as well as in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
Card holders are entitled to the same treatment (at the same cost) that local citizens are entitled to – so if they pay, you’ll have to pay – and if they get healthcare for free, so will you. (Subject to change, based on the outcome of BREXIT negotiations).
Withdraw cash when you get there! Not at the airport. The conversion centres in the airport or around the city tend to be expensive. You won’t get charged as many fees at the ATM or the bank, and the conversion will be exact. Plus, always pay in the LOCAL currency. Paying in sterling incurs a Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fee, which is imposed upon payments made using a card.
Keep your wits about you, don’t leave your group and make sure you’re insured! Take care, especially at night. https://www.abta.com/news/abta-reveals-over-one-five-now-travel-overseas-without-insurance
Get yourself on a priority club entry list, where you know you’ve be allowed in even in a large, same-sex group on the busiest night of the week! (Do check the dress code, as some venues do not allow fancy dress!)
Pre-book your restaurant – picture it – peak season, meal time, large group….how are you going to get in to a decent restaurant at short notice. Ain’t Gonna Happen. Pre-book (and even pre-pay) to make life really simple in resort. With styles to suit all tastes and budgets, pre-book your restaurant(s) and de-stress your entire weekend.
