Vintage hen parties are a classy way to blow the girls away with something unique and imaginative. It’s so easy to create a vintage theme by dressing to kill in vintage get up, indulging in some elegant pampering and getting creative with some vintage-inspired hen party activities.

First of all, you need to decide on a theme. Will you pick a particular era like the 1920s or 1950s, or a certain vintage style, such as flappers or rockabilly, or even base it on your favourite vintage film such as The Great Gatsby, Grease or Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Build your hen party with your theme in mind and get those creative juices flowing – nothing says vintage like ‘home-made.’

Dressing Up

The most fun part of having a vintage themed hen party is getting to raid the dressing up box! Here’s a few ideas:

1920s flapper – fun, flirty and perfect for a hen party. Get your girls to dress up in beaded dresses, feather fascinators and pearls.

Vintage Icons – We all want to look like the old school beauties from the past, who oozed style and glamour.  You could give each girl a different icon to dress as, such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, or Twiggy.

Pin Ups – A pin up girl dress code is brilliant for a hen do. It’s a little bit naughty, with high heels, red lipstick and big bouncy curls. Pouting is essential, as is not being afraid to bare a little flesh. Clothes include pencil skirts, high waisted shorts and bralettes, proving that vintage doesn’t have to mean old-fashioned.

Makeovers – The girls no doubt deserve a bit of pampering, and no one does it better than at a vintage salon. Imagine kicking back in beautiful retro surroundings, having your hair and make-up done to perfection, and coming out looking like an old school Hollywood star, all ready for a night out with a touch of class.

Vintage hen parties require the venue to be kitted out in style. Bunting and patterned plates, cups and saucers are an easy way to do it. Another way to ensure a vintage experience is to pick a venue that matches the theme, like a garden party, or even renting a country cottage. If you’re going for a 1950s housewife theme, try having a vintage picnic complete with hamper, picnic blanket, sandwiches, cake, real champagne flutes and lawn games. Another special way to use your fancy cups and sauces is to fill them with a few cheeky gin cocktails!

There is an endless array of vintage hen party activities to tantalise the girls. Vintage style is all about getting crafty, so why not book into a fascinator-making class or try your hand at making cupcakes. While we’re on the subject of cakes, an ever popular way to start off a hen party and have that all important catch up is over a luxury afternoon tea.

Failing to have a cheeky burlesque lesson on a vintage-themed hen do is almost unthinkable. Get glammed up in lace, corsets, high heels and of course, red lipstick and learn the art of tease. You’re guaranteed to be laughing, and will feel sexy and empowered at the end of it, just like any hen party should.
