As summer approaches, take care of your skin with this advice from the best in the spa business

Chiara Campo, spa manager, Grand Hotel Tremezzo, Lake Como, Italy

Preparation makes perfect

Create your own exfoliator of sea salt and olive oil and get into the habit of using this regularly. Give your skin space to breathe, reveal your skin’s inner radiance, and make it ready to deal with richly nourishing moisturiser

The one-minute body trick

Every single morning, dry brush your body. It will significantly improve tone, helping to banish cellulite and boost cell renewal. Start at your feet and brush in light sweeps in the direction of your heart

Eat organically

Try to make sure all your food is organic as it means zero chemicals to detoxify your body. Choose clean, lean foods and drinks as much water as possible.

Whether you’re shopping for food, or selecting from a menu, always go for the cleanest, most natural-looking food or meal you see. When in doubt, eat fish and greens

Skin Miracles

We all have times when our skin isn’t at its best, times when special treatments are required.

Facial: ESPA Skin Radiance Facial, this revitalising facial helps refresh tired skin, giving a noticeably brighter and naturally radiant appearance. Body treatment: ESPA Lift&Firm Hip&Thigh treatment, a highly effective, stimulating treatment to target cellulite, fluid retention and uneven skin texture. A course of six treatments is recommended

Aude Koch, spa manager,  La Mamounia, Marrakech, Morocco

A body scrub is necessary to remove dead cells in order to get a homogeneous tan but this should be done few days before the sun exposure. Cures (capsules) are recommended to encourage the creation of melanin which allows getting easily a gold and tanned skin.

Before sun exposure, always apply a protective face cream and body lotion with a sufficiently high protection degree, preferably 20 minutes before the sun exposure in order to be effective and optimal, taking into consideration the pigmentation of your skin, its sensitivity, its reaction to the sun and your holiday’s destination. Repeat this process several times to avoid sunburn or a too fast absorption that could cause dehydration and then peeling of the skin. Areas such as the chest, knees, shoulders and soles of feet are the most sensitive therefore a cream with a higher protection degree is preferable.

Hair should also be taken into consideration. Specific products that are revolutionary for the hair should be used to maintain silkiness and to ensure it does not lose its color intensity. Before exposure, avoid using perfume or photosensitizing products that can cause stains on the skin

Pinki Mathebula, spa manager, Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa, Johannesburg, South Africa

Body exfoliation at least twice a month during winter months to prepare the skin for smoothness by summer.  A body wrap is a great way to detox or nourish the skin. A good booster facial helps promote an even skin tone and healthy glowing skin

Made Sudiartai, spa director at Yas Viceroy, Abu Dhabi

If you are working outside and need an energy boost have a banana smoothie which is also great for rehydration. Drink cold ginger tea to stimulate hunger if you lose your appetite in hot weather. Don’t forget to apply a cooling night cream in the evening.

Julien Farel, owner, Restore Salon and& Spa at Loews Regency, New York, United States

The unforgiving summer sun can leave skin feeling dehydrated and damaged. Rejuvenate skin with an anti-aging body treatment like the Vitamin C Collagen Boosting Scrub at the Julien Farel Restore Salon and Spa. The scrub uses high concentrations of Vitamin C, green tea, and rose hip oil to exfoliate skin and offer an antioxidant treatment that combats loss of skin elasticity and dehydration

Julien Farel Anti-Aging Haircare Restore is perfect for after swimming in the pool or in salt water. Since it is a first of its kind, a cleanse+treat+condition formula, it replenishes and rebalances the hair’s natural oils for immediate results due to ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid. It cancels out a long day of bad hair behaviour by deeply penetrating into the follicle, scalp, and hair.

Had too much fun in the sun? If your scalp is sunburned, use a soothing treatment like Julien Farel Anti-Aging Haircare Vitamin Calm to sooth inflammation and provide fast, lasting relief. It uses keys ingredients like green algae extract and vitamin E to replenish vital nutrients and antioxidants, leaving skin feeling hydrated and revitalized.
