It’s only reasonable to look to celebrity weddings for inspiration, from past to present. Celebrity brides are usually impeccably dressed, the ceremony and venue are impressive, and the guest list is invariably dazzling. From traditional big white gowns, to the simple and lacey or the more unusual (and sometimes downright barmy) dresses, our favourite celebrities provide the best bridal catwalk show when looking for inspiration for your own nuptials. These lovely stars have famously showcased some of the best wedding dress styles over the years, so future brides, take note!

1956 Grace Kelly

The iconic actress enchanted the world with her wedding to Prince Rainner III of  Monaco. Designed by an award-winning MGM costume designer, Grace Kelly’s gown was theatrical and elegant with an embroidered bodice and full train. It has inspired generations of traditional fairy tale wedding dresses, including the dress of Kate Middleton.

1971 Bianca Jagger

Bianca Jagger looked sensational at her wedding to Mick Jagger. Amidst the media frenzy, the bride managed to look both unconventional and classic in an Yves Saint Laurent Le Smoking jacket and an enormous white hat. Bianca sparked a longstanding celebrity trend for unconventional wedding attire.

1981 Princess Diana

Lady Diana Spencer was the iconic bride of the eighties, in this dramatic full lace gown. The world watched Diana emerge to marry Prince Charles in puffball sleeves and a full train, and the style quickly became one of the most copied wedding dress designs of the decade.

1998 Cindy Crawford

Supermodel Cindy Crawford married Rande Gerber in a simple barefoot beach ceremony in the Bahamas, and her stunning John Galliano slip dress captured the free spirit and style of the nineties. She showed just how simple wedding dresses can be, and clean, classic dress shapes became the most desired bridal style. Crawford still consistently features in iconic bridal dress lists. Beach weddings unsurprisingly took a sharp rise in popularity too.

2002 Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani was one who lady who wore her unconventional bridal crown with pride was Gwen Stefani in her wedding to British rocker Gavin Rossdale in London’s Covent Garden. Never one to shy away from kooky clothing, Gwen wore an ombre white and hot pink dress by John Galliano, and looked more beautiful than ever.

2011 Kate Moss

In 2011 the fashion world held its breath in anticipation for supermodel Kate Moss’s wedding dress reveal for her marriage to Jamie Hince, which was photographed by US Vogue. She didn’t disappoint in a fairytale dress of a different kind, again designed by John Galliano. Kate looked ethereal and enchanting in a fitted, flowing dress and long train.
