There’s another reason to visit Amsterdam this winter, other than for the cafe’s, galleries, restaurants, bars and everything else that makes it one of the most diverse and fun cities in Europe.
Ice-skating. Along the canals…Yes, really!
The last few weeks have been recorded as the coldest spell for 15 years in the Netherlands. For some people in Amsterdam, this is a bonus as the frozen over canals have created the perfect ice rink!
The capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam is a beautiful city to visit come rain, shine or snow, each season with something unique to offer. If ice skating across the canals is not your thing then in the summer, a canal boat trip makes for a lovely afternoon activity.
For those of you on a hen party in Amsterdam for the culture, you won’t get bored. The Van Gogh Museum holds the largest collection of his works and is an inspiring museum to visit. Amsterdam’s streets and alleyways lend themselves perfectly to wandering around aimlessly, especially the Jordaan area where you can enjoy browsing through the vintage shops and stopping off in a quirky Dutch bar for a cheeky lunchtime cocktail.
The nightlife is thriving in this fun loving city and the best areas to head to are Mitte and Prenzlauer. Before you go drinking and dancing though, sample some of the local cuisine…
Go on, be adventurous (or foolish) and try raw herring!
