Edinburgh Reading Hen Do

Some of the most famous and iconic novels have come out of, or have been set in Edinburgh, so it would be foolish not to include it in this list. It’s said to have inspired over 500 stories, including Sir Walter Scott’s classic The Heart of Mid-Lothian, Ian Rankins’ Detective Rebus collection and the now infamous Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh. Even if you haven’t read the book, you’ve probably seen the cult classic 1996 film version starring Ewan McGregor, Johnny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle.

Not only is Edinburgh famous for its stories, but poetry was a huge part of Scottish life. That’s why no new year’s celebration will pass without varying renditions of Robert Burns’ Auld Lang Syne – Thank you Edinburgh. A trip to the Writers’ Museum is a must for your stay, and if you tie it in with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe you’ll enjoy a truly cultured stay in this beautiful city!
