Wedding season is upon us girls, and this can only mean one thing… it’s time for hen dos and celebrations. Invites are flooding in left, right and centre, so it’s no surprise we’re becoming slightly cost conscious and worrying about how to afford them all.
What started as a chilled out night of cocktails and takeaway with the girls can quickly become a much more extravagant affair when girls get together.
It’s important that brides-to-be and hens remember that they don’t need to break the bank to have a fabulous time. To help you out, we wanted to share our top tips for organising a hen do on a shoestring.
Invite your nearest and dearest
You don’t need to invite every female guest that’s attending the wedding. A hen do is for the bride-to-be to share her final nights of freedom with her closest friends. These are the girls who are happy to splash extra cash for their bestie.
Do It Yourself
Props and fancy dress on a hen do are usually a must, but the cost can add up. Have some arts and crafts time and make your own decorations and outfits. This can be a fun way to get together before the actual do.
Short and sweet
Lots of hens love to go on weekend trips, however don’t feel the pressure to if you’re tight on cash. Instead, organise a fun activity during the day or a crazy night out with the girls. This considerably cuts accommodation and activity costs.
Booking things in advance can reduce costs considerably. Activities and travel are often cheaper the earlier you book them. Plus everyone has time to gather their funds.
Clothes swap or re-wear a classic
Most girls see the need to buy a new outfit for every occasion. Re-wear one of your classics that you’ve not worn in a while, swap with a friend or try an online clothes swapping site e.g. https://www.vinted.co.uk/. Once you’ve had a few drinks it’s unlikely you’ll remember what you’re wearing anyway.
You don’t have to travel a million miles to have a fantastic time. Reduce travel costs by keeping the do in a central location for all hens. There are plenty of exciting activities all over the place and you’re never too far from a city with a good night out!
Lower cost activities
There are so many activities to choose from but some of the best don’t have to cost a fortune. Rent a cottage or apartment or head to a restaurant that has a set menu. As long as your closest friends are there you’re bound to have a good time.
Use your skills
Cocktail making masterclasses are a very popular choice with hens. Enjoy this activity during the day and then rent an apartment and put your new skills to the test. You can have a wild party and not have to leave the apartment. That’s the outfit worries and night out costs gone.
