We all have high hopes for our hen party – whether it’s partying until dawn, being pampered like a princess, experiencing some cultural thrills, or all three, with our nearest and dearest girl along for the ride. But what happens when the celebrities do it, with all the resources at their fingertips and VIP status’s to boot. Celebrity hen partys make headlines for their extravagance and downright coolness. So which A-listers had the most enviable hen parties? And how can you organise something just as incredible for your own party without the celebrity price tag?
Kate Moss – Glamping at the Isle of Wight Festival
For her hen weekend, Kate Moss whisked 30 friends, including Sadie Frost and Jade Jagger, to the Isle of Wight festival for a weekend of glamping and good old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll. Keen not to be upstaged by 75,000 other festival goers however, Kate arrived in three pink limousines, before being driven backstage in a golf buggy to watch the likes of Kings of Leon, Kasabian and the Foo Fighters, before partying the night away in the VIP Ray Ban tent. She spent a night in a luxury rented cottage on the island and had a fancy lunch at the Priory Bay Hotel. So not only did Kate get to celebrate her hen party in one of the biggest festivals in the world, she managed to do it without getting a splash of mud on her wellies, in true A-List style.
How you can do it:
You don’t need to be an A-Lister to go glamping, and the UK holds hundreds of festivals every year, so you’re spoilt for choice. Try Bestival on the Isle of Wight every September to copy Kate’s boho cool. The music festival offer a premium camping area next to a beautiful wooded copse with posh toilets and showers for a more peaceful, cleaner hen party festival experience. You can take your own blow-up chairs, a stove and a cool box for Champagne to glam it up even more. If you want to go even glammer, try Bestivals’ boutique camping, with yurts, sleeping pods or even an old school Airstream coach for hire. You could even get your hens together and chip in for your own campervan. Camping on your hen do by no means has to mean mud, drunken teenagers and smelly toilets. Let the summer of hen party festivalling commence.
Lily Allen – Cooking Lesson with Gordon Ramsey
Lily Allen was treated on her hen do to a surprise cookery lesson from Gordon Ramsay at his exclusive restaurant, The Savoy Grill, in Claridges, London, and within moments it was all over the Twittersphere. She emerged later in a plastic tiara and stripper shoes to engage in some necessary karaoke at the premium karaoke venue, Lucky Voice venue in Soho. It was a luxurious, quirky night to remember with some good old fashioned traditional hen activities thrown in. Well done, Lily.
How you can do it:
You might not be able to get the great Gordon Ramsay to grace your hen do, but you can certainly take advantage of the wealth of nightlife and experiences which London has to offer, and you can certainly arrange some cookery lessons for you and your hens at some of London’s top restaurants. What’s more, Jamie Oliver’s company, Recipease, offer cookery lessons in several locations in London. They might not be from the celebrity chef himself, but they’re sure to be a fun addition to any hen party. And as for karaoke, Lucky Voice in Soho takes bookings for private karaoke rooms, a cocktail bar and a free round of shots for hen parties. Maybe Lily Allen took them up on the offer.
Liz Hurley – Private Donatella Versace Fashion Show
Liz Hurley took the A-List hen party extravagance to new extremes when she asked Donatella Versace to give her a private fashion show for her and her hen party guests. Liz treated her VIP guests to luxury food and champagne, before topping it all off by generously offering them the chance to take their pick from the fashion collection for beautiful dresses to wear at the wedding. Liz manage to throw a party that very few other people would even dream of.
How you can do it:
Handing out Versace gowns might not be within your hen party budget, but there’s no reason why you can’t treat your girls like A-Listers. Spa and pampering weekends are a great way to do this, and you can relax, enjoy a glass or two of champagne and make sure you’re all glowing like A-Listers in time for the wedding. For that little it extra, why not hire a professional photographer to capture you all enjoying yourselves on the day, so you can give your guest something truly special to take home with them. Who needs Versace, hey?
