There are plenty of amazing beaches in the UK that would be perfect for an unforgettable hen do, and they’re all a lot closer to home
From the seaside charm of our coastal towns to our own capital metropolis, you and the girls can have just as good a time in old Blighty. Here are our top 6 alternative UK destinations that deliver the same great experiences as more popular sunny holiday spots abroad.
Known for its 7 miles of beaches, Bournemouth is the perfect cosmopolitan destination for those craving sea and sand. In the day you can explore the Victorian architecture that lines the streets, as well as the variety of shops and restaurants; before finding out just what Bournemouth’s nightlife has on offer, through to the early hours. With the vast selection of activities that Bournemouth provides from murder mysteries to perfume making, you’ll not struggle for entertainment on your hen weekend. Situated approximately 2.5 hours from London with reliable transport links there’s no reason not to take a trip to sunny Bournemouth.
Of course, we couldn’t choose our favourite UK hen destinations without including London. With something exciting happening every hour of the day, you’ll be spoilt for choice on a hen do in our bustling capital. If you’re looking for an alternative to Ibiza’s beaches and parties, then London comes in a close second. Whilst it can’t offer the glorious sandy beaches of its Spanish counterpart, it can certainly match the infamous nightlife scene. In fact, many of the most famous Ibizan clubs also have sister clubs in London, so you can experience the same amazing atmosphere without jetting off to another country. For a proper hen do to remember, why not book a hotel that’s close to the main sights and enjoy an exciting city break? Spend the day shopping in the designer boutiques or exploring in the cultural sites on offer, before making the most of VIP priority club entry to some of the hottest venues. Just add a pamper package the next day to really treat your hen group to the high life, and you’ll all be grateful you chose to stay in the UK.
For a coastal resort that combines both culture and fun, head to Brighton. Think of it as England’s answer to Marbella. You’ll find plenty of sun, loads of fun activities from cocktail making & cheerleading, and a beach to keep you happy in the summer months, as well as lots of quirky clubs to keep you entertained after dark. A trip to The Lanes needs to make it onto the agenda, so you and the girls can browse the unique bespoke jewellery and clothes shops before heading out for cocktails in the evening. The liberal thinking of the town’s inhabitants has encouraged a thriving gay community, and the first weekend of August see’s the town play host one of Europe’s largest Pride festivals. A visit to the new i360 observation tower opening in June is also a must, giving you amazing panoramic views over Brighton & the surrounding coast.
Although a county not a city, a weekend spent in Cornwall really can feel like a trip overseas – especially when the sun is shining! Cornwall is home to a host of lesser-known coastal gems like Fowey & Padstow, but for the party-goer, Newquay is the place to pick. This hotspot is perfect for active hen parties looking to make the most of the seaside setting. With lush beaches and the best surfing conditions in the UK, you can try your hand at a whole range of seaside sports including surfing lessons and beach volleyball. There’s also a wide variety of accommodation types to pick from, including hiring a cottage if you and the girls would prefer to have your own space away from other guests. Just remember that this town gets very busy in the summer months, so if you’re planning a hen do during peak season you’ll need to book quite far in advance to secure your space.
If Vegas was top of the list, why not try the ‘Vegas of the North’ instead? Whilst these may not be the most sophisticated destinations, both are definitely going to deliver on the fun scale. By staying in England you have the option to drive or get the train, so there no hefty flight costs or foreign drinking laws to worry about. Get the candy floss and fish & chips at the ready for this trip, and get ready to try the great mix of experiences on offer. From learning the basics of burlesque dancing to trying your luck in a casino, Blackpool delivers all the best elements of a trip to Vegas combined with seven miles of sandy beaches and all the rock you can eat!
