Barcelona is famous for its vibrant nightlife, delicious Sangria and colourful paella. Not only does the main stretch of the city, Las Ramblas, beckon holiday makers with its lively sights, sounds and world renowned street artists, but it’s just moments away from a beautiful sunny beach.

This city boasts gorgeous views, mouth-watering food and all the Sangria your bride tribe can handle. Beneath the stunning Spanish sun, you’ll have boats, bars and beaches all within reach. Lounge on the beaches here, which stretch for miles, or head out into the city centre to see what Barcelona has to offer.

There is so much to see and do in this amazing city, so planning is key. We’ve searched high and low to bring you the best of Barcelona – just make sure you work in a little time in for a brief siesta to get your hen party ramped up and ready for a night on the town!

Day one in Barcelona

No matter what you plan on getting up to throughout your weekend away, a Barcelona city centre apartment makes for the perfect bolthole. Here you’ll never be far from the action – with the city’s main shopping area just a short walk away, and some of the most famous cultural aspects right around the corner it’s an ideal base camp. Did we mention you’ll be within stumbling distance from the bars and clubs? Always a plus. Each apartment is fully kitted out, so your group will have everything you need to make the weekend bueno! Whip up a Full English to cure that hangover, or dive into your mattress for a pre-night-out powernap (no need to be ashamed, we do this too!)

Morning

Get a real taste of Barcelona at La Boqueria Market. Hosting only traditional food stalls from the city’s fishermen, artisans and winemakers, La Boqueria offers the ultimate authentic Spanish food experience. Try a bacalla salat – a dried and salted cod, and a Catalan specialty. And if you and the girls are feeling adventurous give the peus de pork or cargols a taste The Market is only a short walk from the famous Las Ramblas area, where you’ll also find Placa Reial. Full of relaxing coffee shops and places to eat, this idyllic square even hosts an open-air festival in the summer, which is certainly worth a visit.

Spend your first morning exploring the stunning Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. Hangover-free and fresh from your Spanish breakfast, head for a walk around the city centre, taking in the iconic architecture. If you and your girls fancy hiring scooters, they’re a great way to see the city’s sights while getting from A to B, although taxis are also cost-effective in Barcelona. Move on to the instantly recognisable La Sagrada Familia, designed by renowned Spanish architect Gaudi. While still currently under construction, the beautiful Basilica is almost complete and offers tours of the interior. If you’re not afraid of heights, a trip up the cathedral’s Passion Tower or Nativity Tower will give you an incredible view of the city.

Barcelona for Hens Guide 2 - Pampering

Afternoon/evening

Put your feet up after a morning of sight-seeing, with a well-earned spa and pamper session. Enjoy 90 minutes in a luxury Spanish spa, making use of the sauna, thermal pool and whirlpool. You, and more importantly the beckoning bride, can totally destress for an afternoon alongside your gal pals. This tranquil spa experience is the perfect way to detox before your big night out.

Treat yourselves to some of the city’s finest desserts – there’s something for everyone in Barcelona. Indulge in everything chocolate at Chok, where you absolutely must try the churros. Fancy something more refreshing? Gelaaati specialise in an amazing selection of Spanish gelato and sorbets, and even include lactose free and gluten free options, because everyone deserves to taste their amazing desserts and treats! Who needs alcohol when you’ve got authentic Spanish coffees and slushies? And from here you’ll only be a short walk from the Marina – a lush location for an evening stroll as the sun sets on the city.

Night

There’s only one way to start a night in Barcelona, and that’s with tapas and Sangria – a match made in Spanish heaven. Treat the whole hen squad to a delicious three-course tapas meal, full of traditional dishes like chorizo, gambas and patatas bravas (a potato dish served with a zesty tomato sauce – as good as it sounds!). Once you’ve had as much tapas as you can stomach, followed by another course, you’ll then be joined by a friendly and knowledgeable guide who’ll walk you through your first night in the city. Set off on a bar crawl through the city’s buzzing hotspots, where you can absorb both the vibrant nightlife of Barcelona, and multiple rounds of shots. Your night will only get better as you end the evening in a nightclub, where you can show off your squad routines and give your best dirty dancing impression a go!

Barcelona for Hens Guide 3 - Group in Nightclub

Day two

Your hangover won’t stand a chance when you see what day two has in store. Refreshed from a comfortable night’s sleep in your apartment, it’s time to whip up a Spanish omelette for your grateful girls and step outside to make the most of the city and sunshine.

Morning

If breakfast hasn’t already done the trick, then a spot of retail therapy will definitely send that fuzzy head packing. The Lost & Found Market is home to a mix of vintage stalls full of books, music and clothes. Look out for that perfect hen do souvenir – you might even find a gorgeous outfit for your night out.

Top up your tan in the Spanish sunshine while exploring the picturesque Parc de la Ciutadella – the perfect spot for a picnic or leisurely stroll, where you recap the previous night’s events. As well as sculptures and statues, the park is also home to some of the city’s other famous attractions – including Barcelona Zoo and the Cascada Fountain. The famous Arc de Triomf is a must-see, and a great place for a Barcelona hen do selfie. And if you and the girls are desperate for an extra shot of culture, visit the Museu Picasso, where you can follow the life of the famous Spanish artist and view some of his iconic work.

Barcelona for Hens Guide 4 - Boat Party

Afternoon/evening

You’ve had enough walking and sight-seeing for one morning, now it’s time to take to the Mediterranean. An afternoon relaxing on a private yacht is just what your girl group needs. Set sail with drink in hand, and take in the gorgeous sights on offer on the Barcelona coastline. Feel like a VIP of the sea on a two-hour tour of the blue waters surrounding Barcelona, where you can party it up, or simply lie back and enjoy the bliss.

If you’re yet to find your sea legs why not make the most of the beautiful beaches of Barcelona with a visit to the open air cinema? Sant Sebastia beach hosts Cinema Lliure every Thursday and Sunday over the summer – screening independent films on the waterfront, to a magical backdrop of the glowing Spanish evening.

Alternatively, make your way to the Montjuic district, where if you’re lucky, you might catch the Magic Fountain of Montjuic show. A mesmerising display of colour, lights and water acrobatics will provide one of the unforgettable moments of the hen do, but it is only available on certain days, so check the show times before going!

Night

Start your final evening blow out with a trip to the coolest bar in the city – Barcelona’s ice bar. The bar’s frozen décor includes icy walls, seats and an ice bar stand –there’s even dazzling ice sculptures throughout the venue. A menu full of themed cocktails provides the perfect pre-drink set-up. The temperature inside is -8C, but you’ll be given a thermal jacket and gloves to keep toasty, before a bit of Dutch courage helps you brave the cold. The menu is full of themed cocktails, so you’ll be able to chill out (quite literally) before you head out for an unforgettable night.

You’re all dressed up, and you’ve toasted to the perfect night, now it’s time to hit the town. It’s tough to pick just one place worthy of hosting a night like this – you need to give the bride-to-be the night of her life. So, a guided bar crawl through up to four of the best bars on the quarter is the answer. After necking shots and clinking cocktail glasses in some of the city’s liveliest bars, you end up in one of Barcelona’s top night clubs. Dance the night away with your closest girl group, as you give the lucky lady a memorable Spanish send-off.
