Stag & Hen News from Redseven » 2011 » April The World's leading Stag & Hen Company Tue, 23 Jun 2015 13:30:23 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Summer Festival Stag Do in the UK? Fri, 29 Apr 2011 09:58:55 +0000 Summer festival stag doWith the spring weather proving that it’s just as warm at home as it is abroad, you should be thinking of getting out and about during a UK stag do, and what better way of doing it than by visiting a festival.

If you’ve got a stag with a love of music, then he’ll be made up when the festival tickets turn up. Music, dancing, camping out under the stars: proper bloke stuff.

Time your UK stag do this summer to coincide with ‘Run to the Sun’ – the annual festival of surf, sounds and VW campers. Stag dos in Newquay can easily include some surfing, so why not get into the scene a little and get in on the festival?

And it’s not just about the music: Edinburgh comedy festival, Manchester’s Hungry Pigeon arts festival, and the Wakestock celebration of all things wakeboarding, there’s something on every weekend from now through to the end of summer.

Some festivals last just a day, while others go on for the whole long weekend. Great for your stag do as you can jump in for a bit, then get back to the hotel, scrub up and get out on the town.

Wherever you are planning to have your UK stag do you’ll find there’s lots to do, so sort out a festival or two and you’ll keep all your party happy.

Is it over yet? Will and Kate’s Royal Honeymoon Thu, 28 Apr 2011 15:03:14 +0000

Photograph by Mario Testino

So with the Royal Wedding almost upon us, the focus is moving towards the Royal honeymoon, an event that Will and Kate must be counting the days until.

There’s been rumours that they will go to Australia, Kenya (where William proposed to Kate), Jordan (where Kate spent some of her childhood), the Isle of Scilly and the Seychelles and further that they will spend a few days in Scotland before jetting off. As it’s been seen with the rumours already, it’s going to be difficult to keep media interest at bay so the decision on where to go is an important one.

So will they stay in the UK or will they travel overseas to attempt to get away from the prying press?

Prince Charles and Diana’s honeymoon was over three stages first staying at Broadlands in Hampshire, before departing off on the Royal Britannia where they were waved off by some 30,000 people on a cruise to Algeria, Tunisia, Sicily, the Greek Islands and Egypt. Three months later, the final leg of the honeymoon was spent at Balmoral with the Royal family.

Three months seems like a long time for a honeymoon however, the length is understandable with it being the one chance to get a real amount of time together before settling down into working life, or royal life under the eyes of the media in this case.

Traditionally, the term honeymoon comes from the idea that the first month is the sweetest after which everything declines. Let’s hope it lasts longer for William and Kate!

Wherever Will and Kate end up on their Royal honeymoon, we hope it’s a private and happy one and then possibly we might get to hear the end of this royal wedding malarkey and leave them to it…like that’s ever going to happen…

More rock royalty to wed! This time Muse’s Matthew Bellamy and Kate Hudson Thu, 28 Apr 2011 13:16:02 +0000

Wowzers, brace yourself for an onslaught of rocker nuptials because after months of are-they-aren’t-they and vehement denials that she was ready to wed again, Kate Hudson has announced on live US television her engagement to Muse front man Matt Bellamy.

Today host Matt Lauer asked her ‘could you place your hand in my hand for a second please? I just want to see something’.

The ‘something’ being a MAHOOSIVE 9 carat platinum-set ring with an emerald-cut diamond and tapered side baguettes. Worth a cool $200k.

Hudson giggled ‘I’m engaged! It just happened a week ago. I’m so glad you noticed. I haven’t really announced it… so I was waiting for someone to notice.’

Aw bless her. She wouldn’t give away the deets of how he proposed but said it was “very sweet and very romantic.”

Now we’re getting giddy about Hudson’s hen celebrations because at her last Halloween party THE WHOLE OF HOLLYWOOD turned up. Gwen Stefani, Kurt Russell, Rachel Zoe, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, Amanda Seyfried, David Spade, Adam Sandler, Ryan Phlippe…. Woopwoop! Her hen night will be ABSOLUTE CELEB SOUP! What’s more, further to her seven-sheets-to-the-wind stint at The People’s Choice Awards last year and being papped drinking wine while pregnant, we suspect she likes a tipple. Allow us then to recommend a Hen Night Masterclass in Cocktail Mixology.

Congrats to the lovely couple!

Prince Harry’s Best Man Speech Wed, 27 Apr 2011 09:53:35 +0000 With the biggest wedding of the year approaching, there are sure to be some serious nerves flying around between William, Kate and the rest of the royal family, in particular, for Prince Harry. As brother and best man for the future King of England, there’s no chance of being able to simply scribble a few words of a best man speech on a piece of paper a week before (not that we recommend any best man should do that anyway!).

Best man speeches are notoriously nerve racking responsibilities to fulfil so imagine you are in the position of Harry and your audience includes some of the most famous people in the world and the Queen of England? With Harry’s track record of being the mischievous member of the royal family, you’d think that William wouldn’t get away from the speech lightly; surely there’s going to be a few embarrassing stories thrown in there right? Especially as Harry has been quoted to have said of William that he will “make sure that we dig him in the ribs a bit and embarrass him – make him lose a bit of hair.” However, with the crowd Harry is up against, he’s surely going to have to be somewhat selective with his stories!

So what makes a good best man speech? Well, it’s a given that you will know the groom already very well so there is a fair amount that you will know about them that you can naturally include. One of the most difficult aspects of a decent speech though is getting the balance right between wit without being offensive, and sentimentality without being boring. The last thing you want to do is have the parents and grandparents of the bride and groom cringing in their seats or your friends falling asleep at their table.

Ultimately though, the key is preparation, advice from other friends of the groom and confidence (Dutch courage!). If you’re reading this now and feeling nervous preparing your speech for a friends’ impending wedding, you’ll feel better counting yourself lucky you’re not Harry!

10 iconic celebby wedding dresses Tue, 26 Apr 2011 12:27:20 +0000 Here at CH&S we know our celebby weddings almost as well as we know our award-winning hen and stag parties. So with the Royal Wedding just three days away (can you imagine how frazzled our bride-to-be must feel? Agh!) we thought we’d pay tribute to some of our favourite A-list nuptials from over the years. Quite nostalgic really. Tell us… do you wholeheartedly agree or wildly disagree with our choices?

Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier
For their fairytale wedding in 1956 Grace Kelly wore a Helen Rose design made with 100 yards of silk net and 25 yards of silk taffeta.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale
Dip dye bridal gown? If anyone can Gwen can. A spectacular creation by John Galliano and that picture-perfect kiss that still makes us sigh.

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise
Armani gown with an ivory silk and lace train and Swarovski beaded crystal embroidery. And husband Tom standing on the Yellow Pages.

Luisana Lopilato and Michael Buble
The Argentine actress chose tiered ruffles by Sylvie Burstin for her April wedding to Michael Buble. Love it.

Diana and Charles
With its 25 foot train, 10,000 pearls and silk taffeta skirt, this was truly the mother of all meringues.

Victoria Adams and David Beckham
The champagne Vera Wang ‘crumbcatcher’ with 20 foot train has become the most replicated gown of all time.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban
Conde Nast Brides voted Nicole Kidman’s Balenciaga gown Best Wedding Dress of the Century. Agree or disagree?

Jemma Kidd and Arthur Wellesley, Earl of Mornington
For their 2003 Barbados nuptials Jemma Kidd chose this fluid gown with a simple veil. Stunning in its simplicity.

Tess Daly and Vernon Kay
Classic strapless taffeta with white roses and delicate tiara. Gorgeous.

Chelsea Clinton and Mark Mezvinsky
Last year Chelsea Clinton walked down the aisle wearing a breathtaking gown in laser cut swirling silk organza gown with embellished belt by Vera Wang.

Tacky Royal Wedding Memorabilia Mon, 25 Apr 2011 10:00:35 +0000 An event which will go down in history can mean only one thing, tacky memorabilia. The selection ranges from the high end and expensive to the tacky and darn right funny and the latter is what we’re interested in! Here’s some of the best or rather, worst;

Sick Bags

We may be needing one of these by now with all the ongoing hype!

We’re needing one of these already…not necessarily with Wills and Kate plastered all over it though…

They should be cheese biscuits!

Toasti bags

Make that a cheese toasti…

No home or pub is complete without one of these stylish ashtrays

If you can’t get enough of the happy couple then this is what you need

Toilet Seat Cover

This really is the lowest of low!

Tea Bags

Whilst the nation is currently drowning in tacky royal wedding memorabilia, ironically you now have the chance to drown them in your cuppa

THE Jelly Bean

It’s uncanny! If you’ve got any example of Kate or Wills appearing anywhere you’re not expecting to see them then send them in!

To finish on a more clever note, here’s a video by T-Mobile that depicts the Royal Wedding and that unbelievably a lot of Americans fell for being the real thing…

Two famous American names to marry. Ironic they’re both the same… Thu, 21 Apr 2011 16:26:56 +0000 Now here at CH&S we LOVE a celebrity wedding but even we are getting a little jaded with all the speculation and conjecture surrounding April 29. Column inches – nay miles – are being given over to what is essentially non-news. Do we want to guess how long Kate’s train will be? Not really. Any ideas on which canapé Wills will eat first? Sigh.

So let’s take a look across the pond to coming together of two HUGE families – America’s equivalent of royalty you could say. Lauren Bush, niece of Dubya, is marrying David Lauren, son of Ralph. And here’s the interesting bit. The bride’s new name will be – get this – Lauren Bush-Lauren.

Now the odds of marrying someone with the same name as you are fairly remote after all. ‘Of all the people I could’ve met and fallen in love with it’s just ironic’ she says.

We’ve got a lot of love for Bush (Lauren not Dubya). She’s the philanthropic mastermind behind FEED bags and is also nice to look at.

And here’s a celeb factoid: the couple met in 2004 at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Arts and six years later, in the very same spot, David proposed. Bless!

No word on a wedding date yet but mark our words, we’ll be keeping close tabs. When two families worth McSquillions come together it inevitably means mondo celebs (the Cruises, the Beckhams, the Jay-Z’s…) so the respective hen and stag weekends will be epic. Definitely one to watch.

Pre-stag party planning Thu, 21 Apr 2011 09:50:58 +0000 It’s stag party time, but first…

Soon you’ll all be in the middle of the maddest of stag nights, but before you reach the main event, there are a few things you should really get in order.

Organising the stag do: obviously!

This is traditionally the best man’s party: he picks the events and takes (some) responsibility for the night. Even so, there are a lot of people to please and they all want to go to different places – never easy.

Watch your wallet. It’s not easy to snatch your valuables when you’ve got them hidden in a monkey outfit, but it still happens. The very best thing to do is only take plastic, or even delegate one person, usually the non-drinker, to carry the wallets.

Travel insurance

If you are off to a stag do abroad, you should think about travel insurance – there’s been plenty of strikes in the last two years, so it could be worth getting covered. At least have contents insurance that covers loss of items when on holiday – but don’t try to claim for the monkey outfit you left on the beach at midnight…

It’s especially important to have some local currency lined up. And check out 0% rates of commission – they do exist. Also look at how much your bank charges if you use cash machines abroad – and if credit card debits can actually be traced to the pole dancing joint you told your partner that you’d never visited.

A female best man at Kate Moss’ wedding? Wed, 20 Apr 2011 11:10:40 +0000 Alison MosshartAn epic stag party with strippers, a speech filled with blokey in jokes and ending the night in the bed of a bridesmaid, just some of the roles (or antics!) of a best man. Now, put a female into the role and that changes everything! Or does it?

It seems it’s an increasingly popular alternative to have a female as a best man so it’s not surprising that Kate Moss’ husband to be Jamie Hince from The Kills, is choosing his band mate Alison Mosshart to be his best man. At first it might seem like an eccentric idea and not a very popular one for the bride if there’s any past history involved in the relationship between the groom and his chosen female best man.

The bride is usually the centre of attention at her wedding but with a female best man, this could pose problems – not a great start to spending the rest of your lives together! However, all of this said, times are changing and in most cases the female best man is a sister or a best friend. In Hince and Mosshart’s case they’ve known each other for ten years so it seems apt that the best friend should give their best mate away, male or female.

So what can a female best man bring that a male best man can’t? Well, women are known to be a little more organised so she can make sure that she doesn’t lose the all important rings and she can make sure the stag party is organised well in advance rather than a last minute do the week before. A female best man can also make sure that the speech includes a bit more of a sensitive side to it and she’ll (most of the time) leave those bridesmaids alone!

The first McFly McWedding! Tue, 19 Apr 2011 18:08:32 +0000

Hear that? That’s the sound of a squillion teenage hearts breaking, that is. McFly’s Tom Fletcher (lead vocals, spiky hair, big chin, third fittest member of the band) has proposed to his girlfriend of seven years Giovanna Falcone and tweeted the following:

“…I proposed to @giovannafalcone earlier tonight…and she said YES! We are now officially engaged! :D”

And what does the future Mrs F have to say about all this?

“I have one question… Am I meant to take my brand new sparkling engagement ring off before I wash the dishes? I’m gonna be Mrs Fletcher!Xxxx”

Aw, bless.

Ooh can’t wait for the McStag. The four band members are super-tight with mondo celebs (Taio Cruz, Sugababes, Fearne Cotton to name a few) so it has all the hallmarks of a whopper do. No deets yet but does that stop us from idly speculating? Er no. OK so Fletcher has some previous when it comes to ladsy pranks we reckon his stag do will comprise:

1) Sky diving
2) Off-roading
3) Quad biking
4) Zorbing, and
5) a McKidnapping of the groom.

Congrats guys, we’re made up for you.
