For a country that sounds like a frozen food store, it is fast becoming one of Europe's hottest new destinations. A lot of this is down to the natural glaciers, geysers and volcanoes that are found on this northernmost island, but the rest of it comes from a mixture of its amazing range of daytime activities and legendary nightlife. In summer the sun rarely sets on this Icelandic playground, and in winter there's even more reason to party – probably why this icy city has a bit of a reputation... Situated on the country's south west coast, Reykjavik has mineral water-clear views across Faxafloi Bay off into the wilderness and tundra. While the mountains may appear unwelcoming, the local scene is very friendly and notoriously hedonistic.
