World’s Longest Hug Record Broken in London
Just in time for National Hugging Day on the 21st January, the Guinness World Book of Records for the longest hug has been broken by four couples. The challenge aptly took place at The Meeting Place in St Pancreas train station in London, next to Paul Day’s nine-metre high sculpture of a couple hugging. The hug marathon lasted for an epic 24 hours and 44 minutes.
Now that’s some hugging power! It’s also a pretty easy way to get into the Guinness Book of Records compared with squirting milk 2.7 metres out of your eye or doing the 100 metre hurdle wearing swim fins in 22.55 seconds. Yes, genuine world records!If there was ever a world record to attempt to go for, this is the one.
With the original record being 24 hours and 34 minutes, four couples hugged it out managing to hold on for ten more extra minutes to get the new world record. The hugging champions were standing throughout and had no sleep, food or breaks for the loo. No, we’re kidding with the latter, they were allowed to detach themselves to answer the call of nature. Thank goodness.
The event is the first one of 20 that London and Partners have set up for their World Record London Campaign, the aim being, to get 20 world records making sure that London is a world record breaking city in time for the Olympic Games.
Amongst some of the people that entered was comedian Sanderson Jones who said;
“I hugged my friend Mikey because I don’t see him enough.”
That’s a pretty good motivation. So with a potential 20 world records set for London along with the Olympic Games, London looks set to be the destination for 2012 so we’re thinking a hen weekend in London is a top choice ladies.
Whatever you want to do, eat, drink or see, London has it on offer. Take a trip to the theatre to see an epic musical like Mama Mia or do something different and go to a one off event like a comedy night or a cabaret show. Take a spin on the London Eye and see the city from a new angle and grab some delicious food in one of the many restaurants in Soho or Covent Garden.
The choices are endless! Just make sure you make time for hugs.
